OUR MISSION
​
Our innovative design-build Student Shuttle Program enables high school seniors and college freshmen to build their own Shuttle Cargo Bay Module to live in while attending college, or a Technical or Vocational School Program. 

Working with Shuttle Educational Services, the student secures two or three corporate sponsors to provide the financial resources for purchasing materials. The student then prepares a budget, puts together a design engineering package and working with a SES Project Manager carries their project to a successful conclusion.

Customized ​Modules
Every Cargo Bay Module builder learns how to design their module using a 3-D CAD Program called Google Sketchup. It is a very intuitive tool and the SES staff assists each participant in learning the basics required for this task. Exterior dimensions and configuration are fixed by the Shuttles overall appearance, but interiors are strictly a product of the designer's creative imagination. SES makes a wide array of technologies and materials available to the designer to enhance their design.

Approaches to the Shuttle Design/Build Exercise
Student eligibility for our program is based upon teacher recommendations along with a 500 word essay that the student must write about why they want to build a Shuttle Cargo Bay Module.

Seven students are selected for the program, just like the shuttle astronaut team, and they report to the Lincoln, Alabama design-build center once all materials arrive and remain for three weeks while they complete their Shuttle Cargo Bay Module. SES then does the logistical coordination for transporting and siting their Module at their selected location.
